Newspapers online

Newspapers face a dilemma as their online edition readership numbers grow and their print edition readership numbers shrink; to charge or not to charge for online access. It seems fairly obvious to me that the only type of publication that will in the long run be able to get away with charging for access is one that provides a unique source of information that a niche group will be willing to pay for (e.g., Roll Call).
